This competitive feeling is something we like to encourage and celebrate (as long as it remains friendly, of course), which is why we’re delighted that this September, a theatre piece all about the joys of winning and the pitfalls of losing, is coming to one of the quirkiest and most interesting performance venues in London, Theatre Delicatessen. “The Bullpen” is based on the idea of cut-throat environment and atmosphere of the stock market bullpen, and audience members will be involving themselves in a number of games and challenges, to find out whether they really are true winners, or simply bog-standard losers.

At the time of writing, Lab Theatre Collective, the production company, along with the talented young cast, are still in the process of devising and perfecting the material, although we are wondering whether to suggest they include an activity which involves solving a Perplexus….it’s fun, challenging and absorbing, everything that a theatre piece should be.

If you’d like more information about Perplexus, or have seen a different theatre show that you’d like to recommend to other readers, please do get in touch, or leave a comment at the bottom of our blog.

What we spend very little time contemplating and celebrating, however, is just how much of it we use all the time, particularly when we’re doing extremely complex and important tasks, such as completing a certain level on our Perplexus. In honour of this, we thought we’d do a little blog about the parts of your noggin that are exercised during vigorous Perplexus playing sessions, some of which you may not have even known existed…

The Frontal Lobe: The part of the brain used for problem solving and reasoning, both of which are essential for getting the ball in the hole in your Perplexus. Like any squishy part, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes.

Broca’s Area: In control of speech and facial nerves. Perfect for exclaiming and pulling silly faces as you concentrate on moving the Perplexus around to solve the puzzle.

The Medulla Oblongata: It’s because of this part of the brain that we can ever play Perplexus as all, and give it our full concentration. The Medulla Oblongata controls the body’s automatic functions, such as breathing, meaning we can dedicate more thought to important things, such as playing our fave games.

If you’d like any more information about a brain training Perplexus, please do get in touch and one of our team will help you out.

Children and adults alike have been talking about it for months, in a frenzy of electric anticipation…that’s right, dear reader, Toy Story 3 has finally reached UK cinemas, and it truly is a treat to behold. For many, this film is a cutesy tale of talking cowboys, and plastic men who really believe they’re from space and are on earth to save its inhabitants from certain death. For us here at Perplexus HQ, it’s about much more- the love that a child has for his toys, and how we adults may not realise how much they mean to one young person. It’s about appreciating a toy for its beauty and glory, however old and worn it may seem to the outside observer, which is an ethos we also carry within our company.

If you want to treat a child (or adult) you know to a really special toy, either for a significant birthday, Christmas, or for no particular reason at all, then do get in touch, and we’ll talk you through all your Perplexus purchasing and delivery options. We look forward to hearing from you.

Well, dear readers, we can think of one such man with no problems at all, and that man is the one and only Michael McGinnis, the inventor and developer of the Perplexus. Michael is not only a sensational toy-builder-man, but also a sculptor, painter, art installation-er, and a host of other things…we’re getting tired already. We recently discovered that an interview with the great man himself had been posted on the web, so you can imagine our excitement. In said interview, Michael revealed how the development of the Perplexus was something of a dream, as he developed his long term passion of creating beautiful designs into something practical that could be enjoyed by numerous people, and thus a great business venture. With eleven siblings and thirty-three nieces and nephews, as well as two children of his own, all of whom are cut from the same creative cloth that he is, the development of his invention may have been partly a result of creating something for the people he loves, who would be harsh critics as artists themselves.

If you know Michael personally and would like to tell us some more of his juicy goss, or indeed would like to share your own ideas for a great toy, please do get in touch or leave a comment at the bottom of our blog- we always love to hear from you!

During the season when we all want to be looking particularly gorgeous and glowing, a runny nose, losing one’s sense of taste and puffy eyes really don’t make life easy. If, like many others (including a couple here in the office) you’ve been struck down with a pesky cold or flu bug, then take comfort in the fact that Perplexus is here to make your days/nights pass in a flash, helping to combat the boredom with minimum physical exertion. We strongly suggest enlisting parents/significant others/housemates/next door neighbours (you get the picture) to wait on you hand and foot, fetching newspapers, magazines and cups of Lemsip and Earl Grey, and of course various hand-held toys for you to play with in your incapacitated state. Once you decide that you’d like a Perplexus to play with, you can even order one from the comfort of your own bed, and it’ll be dispatched the same working day from our offices. Now what could help you feel better more quickly than that? For more information on our products or service, please do get in touch and one of our team will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

He’s been thinking about it for weeks, ever since his incredibly organised parents handed out the invitations, and there is literally never been anything more exciting, ever. And then realisation hits- with only two days until the party, you haven’t bought a pressie, and you’re so tied up organising the rest of your life that you won’t get an opportunity to go the shops. That’s where we can save the day. If you’re after a sure-fire original, exciting gift that will excite and entertain a recipient of any age, and definitely keep little Tommy’s parents happy, as they see their angel using his brain and improving his hand-eye co-ordination, look no further than Perplexus. It’s on television constantly, and in the rare moments that it’s not, we’re bombarded with reminders, in adverts, trailers and highlight snippets. But, if you’re more interested in settling down with your Perplexus and having a good old brain challenge, you’re not alone. This week, we bring you some of the reasons that our beloved brain trainer is better than watching the footie:

If you yell at your Perplexus, you look less silly (perhaps) than if you’re yelling at a bunch of guys who are thousands of miles away.

Perplexus doesn’t miss penalties, and then make you want to cry because your country will never win an international football tournament ever again (open for discussion).

Perplexus doesn’t make everyone completely anti-social/obsessed with one thing for weeks on end, even though it is quite addictive…

There is no agonising over the reasons that you didn’t get to the next level of Perplexus at the crucial moment, or wondering why a perfect chance just couldn’t have been grabbed. You can have a go again tomorrow.

If you have any other great reasons why you’re rather sit down and play with your Perplexus than watch England get as far as the quarter finals, then please do get in touch- we always love to hear from you!

We read one such blog just the other day, and had to give our new chum ‘Red Dave’ a mention (hello to you Dave, if you’re reading this. Now you’re famous in the Perplexus world, hurrah!). In his lovely contribution to web content, Dave shares a number of things with us, including how his own lovely wife, previously apposed to puzzles and games such as this, now cannot get enough of it, and he’s even struggling to be allowed a go, even for a few precious minutes. Not only this, but he compares completing the puzzle to meditation or something equally relaxing and spiritually enhancing. We’d have to agree with you there, Dave, as any time we play on our Perplexus, we definitely feel more fulfilled. Reading on, it sounds like our Dave knows what he’s on about when it comes to puzzling things over, and, like any great critic, he doesn’t let anything slide that doesn’t quite work for him; if he had his way, the Perplexus would be made of wood, although this would be pretty tricky and make it much less durable. the biggest compliment of all, we feel, is that Dave said he thinks this product is the best design since the Rubik’s cube- now what more could we ask for?!

If you’d like to get your hands on one of our addictive balls of fun, then do get in touch and we’ll send one out to you right away. Or, if you’re a friend of Red Dave, maybe just let him know that we’d love to meet him one day, and he can pop into the office any time for tea and biscuits.

This might depend on your own interpretation of the above statement), we pose the most serious question we could think of. Don’t get us wrong, we think that other unanswered conundrums are also important and interesting, such as how to get really good at Perplexus, and getting to an expert of the highest level…but this time, we’re bringing the questions back home, into the kitchen and onto the stove.

We’ve all been there; you’re happily boiling an egg, letting it simmer away, looking forward to drowning your soldiers in the soft yolk. All of a sudden, you get the horrible feeling that the egg has been cooking for too long- lo and behold, you discover you’ve actually hard-boiled your tea. How is it possible to guess when your egg is ready? Our Jonny seems to believe he’s discovered the solution…

“Basically, I’ve developed a magical kind of sixth sense. If you want you egg done right, just call me up, and I’ll come round. Fees are negotiable”. Great, thanks Jonny. If you have any other, more practical egg-cooking solutions that you would like to share with us, or indeed would like to get your hands on a Perplexus, please do get in touch and one of our team will be on hand to help. We look forward to hearing from you!

This instalment may be of greater interest than the last, particularly to those who concern themselves with confectionary items, and get quite upset when lines are discontinued. On this note, we ask you, beloved Perplexus blog reader, and anyone of influence at Cadbury’s, why is our favourite Time Out so difficult to find in shops these days? As far as we’re concerned, everything about this delicious treat is right: you can nibble the outside chocolate coating off, or even bite each end and suck your tea through it, leaving a delicious melty, gooey centre. And it’s perfect snack size, so practically guilt free.

We really cannot see an answer to this particular puzzle, and so we need your help. If you know any reason for this travesty (we do not feel that we are exaggerating on this particular occasion), please get in touch as soon as possible, and hopefully we can start finding some solutions to this disaster. Of course, if you’d just like to know about our products or our service, please do give us a call, and one of our friendly team will be on hand to help.
